An article came out yesterday in the International Business Times about how Anonymous seemingly stopped terrorist attacks in New York and Tunisia. This is remarkable for several reasons. Firstly, it’s crazy that this group of internet wizzes is arguably as effective (if not more so) as governments at thwarting terrorism. I mean, these guys managed to stop terrorism without a billion dollar budget and the use of drones and guns, whaaa?
Secondly, it absolutely slays me that this didn’t make the national news last night. In fact, a check of NBC.com merely reveals stories about Trump, murders, and sharks…in that order of importance.
Even more curious, CNN published a story about cute anime characters that “the vibrant worldwide community that loves Japanese anime” started using to combat the fear-mongering of the Islamic State. Now, the CNN article does not name the aforementioned group, and there is nothing in the article about Anonymous (link below). However, BBC news has an article that mentions the same anime-against-IS and directly links the campaign to Anonymous.
I’m no Conspiracy Theorist, but it strikes me as very odd that the US seems very hush-hush about this group.
